Who am I?
I have been a writer my whole life, from penning comic strips as a kid to seeing my byline featured in national newsstand magazines as an adult. My focus is on nonfiction. As I like to say, real life is far more interesting than anything I could make up! I hold a master's degree in publications design from the University of Baltimore and a bachelor's degree in liberal arts from Vassar College. I am originally from Connecticut, and currently live just outside of Baltimore.
What do I do?
My extensive editorial background spans a wide variety of subjects, including health, higher education, business, technology, parenting, and travel. I even wrote music and movie reviews early in my career. I’ve interviewed hundreds of people including subject matter experts and CEOs, brain surgeons and ballerinas, authors and restaurateurs. I’ve written profiles, feature articles, personal essays, and hundreds of blog posts about all sorts of topics.
Who do I write for?
My list of clients and publication credits is loooong. Here’s a sampling, in alphabetical order:
AAA World, AARP Bulletin, American Baby, Arrive, Baltimore Magazine, The Baltimore Sun, The Boston Globe, Bride’s, Chesapeake Home, Chesapeake Life, The Chicago Tribune, The Christian Science Monitor, Cooking Light, Health, Maryland Family, Physician’s Practice, Smithsonian, Working Mother; AOL.com, Babble.com, Momversation.com, ScaryMommy.com, and TheBump.com.
I’ve also written for numerous healthcare organizations, such as Johns Hopkins Medicine, Kennedy Krieger Institute, and St. Joseph Medical Center, as well as many higher education clients, including 2U, Johns Hopkins University, Loyola College in Maryland, the University of Baltimore, the University of Maryland Baltimore County, the University of Pennsylvania, and Walden University.
Fun fact: I wrote a mom blog for 10+ years, which led to an eBook and a stint as a columnist for a family magazine and a pregnancy website.
Isn’t print dead?
While it’s true that many publications have bitten the dust (RIP, Maryland magazine and Gourmet!), print is still alive and well in many ways. Alumni magazines, hospital publications, B2B and consumer magazines, annual reports, and all kinds of other print publications are still flourishing. And it’s worth noting that it’s not either/or, it’s both/and. Most print publications today have robust online presences that include websites, blogs, and social media. Check out my portfolio for some examples.
Let’s talk digital content!
Blogs, tweets, Facebook updates, infographics, webinar scripts, YouTube captions, landing pages, LinkedIn articles, email newsletters—you name it, I’ve written it. The digital content I’ve created has engaged millions of online visitors. By the way, audience reach and ROI are measured differently when it comes to digital content. If you need help understanding what terms like engagement, conversions, click-through, bounce rate, SEO, or even content marketing mean, let’s talk! I can’t really explain TikTok, but I can try.
